Join Riverhead Books and I, Too, Arts Collective at the Langston Hughes House for this all-day celebration of writing from the Caribbean with free books, totes, and special author appearances by Bocas Award for Caribbean Fiction winner Tiphanie Yanique (LAND OF LOVE AND DROWNING) and New York Times best-selling author Mark Kurlansky (THE EASTERN STARS: HOW BASEBALL CHANGED THE DOMINICAN TOWN OF SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS).
The open-air, curated reading room will not only feature Riverhead books written by Caribbean authors, but also:
- Books that explore themes and subjects close to the region
- This summer’s hottest releases, including new books from Lauren Groff and Meg Wolitzer
- Books by Khaled Hosseini, Paula Hawkins, and Elizabeth Gilbert
- A selection of children’s books with Caribbean characters, courtesy of Penguin Young Readers.
Friendly Riverhead staff will be on hand to share book recommendations, read aloud, lead impromptu book clubs, and answer burning reader questions (“So when can I get my hands on the new Marlon James novel?!”).
Swing by for a chance to become one of the first readers of the latest from Man Booker Prize winner Marlon James—anyone who posts a photo of the pop-up on social media with the hashtag #RiverheadPopUp could win an exclusive signed advanced readers’ copy of BLACK LEOPARD, RED WOLF, the “African Game of Thrones” … not out until 2019! Other prizes include the most coveted fashion item of the summer filled with signed books and a big surprise giveaway in the final hour.
At Riverhead Books, we pride ourselves on publishing extraordinary, groundbreaking works by diverse voices from around the world. The pop-up reading room is our way of taking that one step further, by creating a space for people to come together and build community around our love of good books.
A full schedule of events will be made available on the Facebook event page. There will be food and beverages by Caribbean businesses for sale.
